Runners-up winner of our Science meets parliament scholarship

Dr Janet Wong is a Clinical Research Physician who started her career in the ‘basic sciences’ of molecular genetics and biology. She is inspired by scientific research that endeavour to answer the fundamental probing questions about our life forms and biomechanisms.

After venturing into medicine and gaining years of clinical experience, Janet found her ‘professional home’ in the clinical research industry, in particular to do with drug safety (pharmacovigilance) and clinical development of new medicines and vaccines.

Janet is passionate about the representation of women in STEM, especially of women of colour, how society values science and our scientists, and the movement for Open Science.

As a first-generation migrant Australian and a scientist, Dr Janet Wong would like to acknowledge the First Nations people of this continent. For they are the original scientists and custodians of these land and ecosystems, which they have looked after expertly for thousands of years. Their sovereignty and intellectual wisdom must never be overlooked.
